The morning of my 40th birthday, God gave me a dream. It is said that the number 40 stands for new beginnings. Noah was in the ark for 40 days. Jesus was in the wilderness for 40 days. Jesus told the disciples to wait in Jerusalem for 40 days until the Holy Spirit rested on them on the day of Pentecost. Moses was 40 when he was called to lead the Israelites. I could go on and on about how many examples are in the Bible about the number 40. Yes, I think we can agree that there is something about that number that is significant.

The night before my 40th birthday, prior to falling asleep, I asked Papa God to give me a dream. I woke up that morning at my normal time to go spend time with God. While still laying in my bed, I told God, “Can I go back to sleep just today since it is my birthday?” I felt in my spirit that the answer was yes. So I drifted back to sleep.

In my dream, I could feel that there was something in the back of my throat. I went into the bathroom and opened my mouth to see what was in there from a reflection in the mirror. To my surprise, it was little a green tree frog all snuggled up and sitting behind my tonsils! For some reason, I knew in my dream that I had asked many doctors how to get it out but no one could do it. It had lived there for years and was eating the food I ate to stay alive in me. All of the sudden I saw in the reflection in the mirror that the frog peeked out and I could see his little eyes looking at me. Still dreaming, I prayed that God would remove the frog. Then I heard God speak, “ No, you get it out, Ashley” I started thinking about how to do this.  I took my pointer finger in a hook-like motion and stuck my finger in the back of my mouth (behind that frog) and pulled him out. After the frog was dislodged, he jumped out and fell in the bathroom sink. Before it went down the drain, the frog turned and looked at me.

When I woke up, I thought, “Well God that was interesting.” I could not even begin to imagine what that dream meant at that moment. I got up and got the kids off to school, came back home and went for a walk with my neighbor, Jodi. Still, on my mind, I couldn’t wait to tell her about the dream. Jodi reminded me of the story of Moses when God sent the plague of frogs to come upon Egypt because Pharaoh would not let the Israelites go and make their animal sacrifices to God.

Paraphrasing the story: Finally, when Pharaoh had enough of the infestation of frogs, Moses stood before Pharaoh.  Pharaoh said “Tell your God I will do as He has commanded but to just please get rid of those frogs! Then, I will then let your people go”. Moses said to Pharaoh, “When do you want me to ask God this?” Pharaoh said “Tomorrow.” Exodus 8:8-10

So okay. Seriously, Pharaoh? I don’t know about you but if my house had frogs jumping all over the place; frogs in the beds, my food pantry, the bathtub, jumping on the front doorstep and so on. I would say, “Moses, please pray and ask God to get those nasty frogs out of my house, today!

After this conversation with my neighbor, God revealed to me what this dream meant. Today is the day. Not tomorrow. If you want God to do something in your life, proclaim it today and take action.

Did you notice that I was the one who had to take my finger and get the frog out? God gave us (the body of Christ) authority with the name of Jesus to tell those frogs (situations or circumstances that are not of God) in your life to leave. Jesus already died on the cross and rose from the dead. Then He sat down next to God in heaven and it was finished.  All authority was given to Jesus and given to us to use in His name.

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Matthew 28:18

The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.” He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. Luke 10:17-19 (NIV)

Because all authority was given to Jesus due to His death and resurrection, as co-heirs in Christ we now carry His authority. So in prayer ask for it and then take it. You are chosen by God for this day and time to be a world changer. You are the son or daughter of the King of all kings, Lord of all lords. Don’t ever let someone tell you that those frogs have control over you. Use the name above all names and tell those frogs “You’re out of here in the name of Jesus, TODAY!” Grab your Bible and take your rightful place of authority in Christ Jesus.

Side note: I won’t tell you how long ago this was because I would be giving away my age but after this dream on my 40th birthday, was the start of when I studied about who I was in Christ and what rightfully belonged to me as a believer. It was also when I began speaking in front of people at conferences, concerts, radio programs, churches and then I wrote and published my first book, Papa God and Ashley; It’s a Relationship. I believe the Lord was showing me my true purpose and that I had to remove the fear of getting up in front of people to speak about Him. A few times, people have come and said to me, “You can’t say this or you shouldn’t say that because it is not socially accepted by the people or religious leaders.” That is when I open my Bible to see what God says about the matter and when I have His approval through His word, I speak His truth.  I do not allow those old frogs the chance to creep back in to steal my voice from God. Don’t allow the frogs of doubt, condemnation, and lies to take over your life and your household. Be bold for the Lord and say what God says through His written word.

Today, years later, I LOVE speaking about my Papa God, whereas before it used to scare me to get up in front of large crowds of people.  I admit that at times I still get a little nervous but The Holy Spirit then reminds me of the dream about the tree frog and I know I can speak without fear because I trust in the Lord.  I know He has given me the ability and I have something important to say that will touch and transform the hearts of others. Something I always tell God before I get up to speak, “Papa, let’s change the World!” This reminds me that what I am going to say is about Him and not about me. It takes the “me” factor out of my thoughts. I speak as an ambassador for Christ.  Not an ambassador for myself.  Typically the “frog in my throat” or lump in my throat, goes away when I say those words to God.

Here is my question for you. What do you feel the Lord is calling you to do and the frog in your throat is preventing you from walking in your calling from the Lord?  Think about it and pray about it! Then dislodge it from your mouth with the Word of God. Say what God says about your life, your circumstances, and any fear that is holding you back.  It doesn’t belong there.  Pull it out, today!

Big hugs,

Papa God and Ashley

  1. This is amazing! I cannot tell you the confirmations that are coming through this precious word from the Lord through your writing. Just the fact that you used a frog is huge! I know you know what I’m talking about. I Will move forward in the direction God has for me and I thank you for your message.
