This morning while spending time in the presence of God, the Holy Spirit led me to John 14:15-18. In this chapter, Jesus was talking about sending us a helper: The Counselor. I started thinking of the boy’s soccer team in Thailand who are trapped deep in a dark cave.  These boys went exploring and due to the rainy season in Thailand, the cave filled up with water and they went missing for over a week.  Of course, this was publicised on global tv and the world started praying for the safety of these little boys.

Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit

“If you love me, keep my commands.  And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. John 14:15-18 NIV

The good news is the boys have been found!  There are still challenges with getting them out because rainwater with flash flooding continues to fill up areas of the cave and they cannot easily release the boys.  And the news reports say that if they can’t figure out a way to get them out, the boys may have to stay there in the cave until the rainy season ends in the fall.

I want to point out three things the Holy Spirit is teaching me through John 14:15-18.

First, the body of Christ came together and started praying for the boys to be found safe and alive.  Because of our prayers, the Holy Spirit stepped in and became the helper to show the rescue team where the boys were located in the cave. Body of Christ, now that they have been found, please take time today to pray for the release of these boys. It doesn’t matter what the news reports say, we serve the God of miracles. And if you are reading this after the boys have been rescued, please pray for their mental and emotional healing as well.

Which leads me to my second point. The soccer team was left alone in this cave for several days and nights; essentially they were orphaned.  They were without knowing what would come of them and I am confident they felt hopeless and alone.  If I were to put myself in the shoes of these boys, I would be thinking that there is no way out and I would be praying like crazy for our rescue.  Imagine for a second, these boys sitting in the pitch black darkness with no food and no sense of direction. It must have been so scary. That is when the Holy Spirit started pulling on the hearts of God’s people to start praying because we know that with the help of the Holy Spirit, the boys will be comforted, even in that scary dark cave. Remeber, God is omnipresent, He is present everywhere all at the same time.  It doesn’t matter where we go, He is there with us and if we call out to Him, He will answer us and will be with us.

Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?  If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. Psalms 139:7-8

The third point that I would like to make is this.  You may not physically be trapped in a dark cave in Thailand, but you may feel trapped in the deep caves of your thoughts.  If you feel like you are in a dark and lonely place, I encourage you to call upon the Holy Spirit to be with you, to comfort you and to help you.  He is the Spirit Of Truth and God has not left you to be alone and hopeless.  When God created us, we were never meant to be orphaned and without Him.  But because of sin committed by Adam and Eve, Jesus came to earth in a human body to show us who God is and how to reconcile us back to Him.  When you read the stories of Jesus in the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John); He loved on the unlovable, He healed the sick and depressed, and He died in our place so we could be saved. He conquered death and the grave and rescued us from the powers of darkness and brought us back into the kingdom of light and into fellowship with God. That is when we were released and the Holy Spirit was sent to help us. You are not alone!

If you do not know God The Holy Spirit, will you please pray with me?

God, I am in a dark place in my life and I need to be rescued.  I need You Holy Spirit to comfort me and lead me to the truth.  Jesus, I have read and heard of Your life and what You did for all of humanity on the cross.  I believe that You came to show us who God is and then You sent us a Helper and Councilor. I don’t want to live in this deep dark cave of my thoughts and I don’t want to be alone anymore.  I want to know You, God, not just know of You.  I know I am a sinner but I believe that Jesus died in my place to take away my sins and that He is the Son of God.  Forgive me for my sins and wash me clean as snow.  Come into my life and live in my heart forever.   Thank You, Holy Spirit for counseling me and helping me throughout the rest of my journey in life.  Because of Jesus, I am set free from the cave of darkness and I will seek You, Lord in all my thoughts from this day forward.  In Jesus name, I pray.  Amen.

Freind, you are not alone anymore.  God is with you and His promised Holy Spirit now lives on the inside of you.  Get yourself a Bible or for the time being, you can go online and pull up Biblegateway.com.  You can look up multiple translations of the Bible and find one that is easy for you to understand in your own dialect. While spending time with God, pray and ask the Holy Spirit to speak to your heart. Then listen for that still small voice, that is the Holy Spirit speaking to you in your spirit man.  The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth.  His words will always line up with what is written in scripture. Spend time with Him daily and He will safely show you the way out to freedom.

Big hugs,

Papa God and Ashley
